Questionable Markup is a simultaneous-turn retail sales game. Research the market's tendencies and use your intuition to figure out what products sell, then use that knowledge to beat out the competition.

  • Undercut your rivals' prices to try to steal their sales, or raise your prices to squeeze every last dollar out of the market
  • Compete with your opponents on sure-fire hit products or try to buy something off-beat to corner the market for it
  • Simultaneous turns replicate the uncertainties of the business world, forcing you to rely on your intuition to guess your opponents' actions and counter appropriately
  • Upgrade your store and advertise your products to gain the upper hand over your competition
  • Play with up to 4 players in network or hotseat multiplayer, or play against the AI

I tried playing with my friends  but when trying to connect via ip and game name we couldn't. Also the audio is way to loud.

First appearance is bad, loud music, no volume option.

Haven't played the game yet but if you have audio it's a pretty essential feature.

Hey, I just wanted to let you know this is a fantastic concept for a game. I think you did a really good job with the core concept. If you turn this into a full release, or a phone game I will be the first one to purchase a copy. Super fun! I wish you luck in whatever you are doing.

Thanks a bunch Nick, glad you liked it! I'll definitely let you know if I do a broader release.

The game freezes when I click on Start game buton on game setup page. Mac version

Doh! Sorry about that. Thanks for the heads up.

I just tried running the latest build on my Mac and I was able to start a new game without issue, so there must be some sort of difference between our machines that's causing the issue. Do you know what version of OSX you're using?

I'm guessing there's probably an error printing out that would give me some direction on what's causing the issue. If you have a chance, can you try launching the game from Terminal and send me the full error message that prints out? You can launch it using this command:

open -W ~/Downloads/QuestionableMarkup.app

The "~/Downloads/QuestionableMarkup.app" in there is the path to the game on your machine. If you just downloaded it to the default OSX location, that command should work as-is, otherwise you would just need to update that last argument to path on your machine. If you have trouble with that, let me know and I can post a new build that will send the output to a log file instead (I've been meaning to do that anyways).

Actually the game runs fine if not launched from inside the Itch.io app. Either via command line or just double clicking the app is ok.

I quickly searched for logs of itch.io and there isn't much. Only this:

Oh wow, weird! Thanks for the details, it's greatly appreciated. I'll play around with it to see if I can figure out what's going on there.

Based on the issue you raised here, I setup an error reporting service for the game and I was able to track down a couple hard-to-reproduce bugs as a result. I was never able to reproduce the original issue, but hopefully some of the other fixes have taken care of the problem. If not, I should have more data to work with if you or anybody else hits the issue again. Thanks again for the help!
